Chuck Commanda, Algonquin Traditional Knowledge Keeper, will lead a community build of a traditional Algonquin birch bark canoe from Sept 7 – 27 inclusive. Visitors are invited to watch how these unique vessels were built.
A final weekend celebration, Sept 26/27 will include a free venison chili feast on the Saturday with a blessing and launch of the boat. Visitors are invited to experience paddling first-hand in one of three birch bark canoes led by students trained by the Ontario Recreational Canoeing Association. Sunday will also include a Reconciliation Walk organized in partnership with TruNorthAid. See our website for up-to-date details.
