Frontenac County: Wolfe Island

South Eastern Ontario / Sud-est de l'Ontario

Experience the beauty and tranquility of island life – by bike and enjoy a ride exploring Wolfe Island, the largest of the 1000 Islands, located where Lake Ontario ends and the St. Lawrence River begins. From the ferry docks in Kingston, roll on board for a short free ride over to Wolfe Island, disembarking at dock in Marysville or nearby. Stop in town for picnic or beach supplies before pushing on along quiet country roads, past the endless green fields, through the peaceful island setting following the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail.

Wind your way along the south side of the island with views across the river to nearby New York State. Marvel at the tall wind turbines that dot the island, one of Canada’s largest wind farms. Stop at unique artisan and agricultural businesses along the way. Add a ride out to Big Sandy Bay and hike 1.5km hike to the spectacular sandy beach. Cool down in the waters of Lake Ontario before continuing the ride, cycling back to Marysville to visit local bakery, gallery, pub and museum or stay overnight before a return ferry to Kingston.
