In the heart of Gananoque, Pangea House is bringing the world together.
This unique inn, purchased by partners Jody Lundrigan and Geoff Dennis in 2021, offers a unique blend of comfort, community, and culture. This cozy accommodation is perfect for travellers seeking a memorable stay while exploring the stunning Thousand Islands region.
Each guest room at Pangea House is modelled after a modern-day continent so you can rest your head anywhere in the world when you stay at this charming bed and breakfast: Africa, Antarctica, Asia, Australia, and South America. Guests can lounge in North America and eat in Europe.
You’re greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere when you step inside Pangea House.
“We originally planned to open a B&B and maybe a small restaurant down south, but when COVID hit, we thought it might not be the best time. We started looking in Ontario and fell in love with Gananoque and the house itself. It was just perfect timing. So, we decided to jump in and do something crazy during a crazy time — why not?”
Jody emphasizes the importance of making every guest feel welcome and at ease. “It’s important to us that they have a relaxing experience,” she says. The thoughtfully designed common areas encourage socializing, making it easy for guests to connect and share their adventures.
Pangea House offers a range of accommodations to suit every traveller’s needs. Each room is decorated with local art and reflects a unique theme.
“Funny story — my partner and I were having a glass of wine on the patio, and I wanted a travel-themed name. He suggested ‘Pangea House.’ I had no idea what that meant! He explained that Pangea was the supercontinent before the continents split apart. That’s when we decided each room could represent a different continent,” Jody explains.
Pangea House has received glowing reviews since its inception. “Every year has been better than the last, and we’ve had great support from the community. Our first year, 25 per cent of our guests came from referrals from other B&Bs in town, which was incredible.”
In addition to the exceptional accommodations, Pangea House offers guests the opportunity to indulge in five-course meals prepared by Geoff, a “reformed” chef from Toronto. “He loves creating these meals inspired by cuisine from around the world. It’s a small, intimate dining experience,” Jody says.
Creating a welcoming atmosphere is a top priority for the duo. “That’s really important to us. We have a tagline: ‘The world comes together at Pangea House.’ We display a Pride flag and support campaigns like ‘Hate Has No Home Here.’ We want all guests to feel welcome, no matter their background,” Jody says.
Pangea House is not just for overnight stays; it also hosts writers’ retreats, weddings, and other events. “This will be our third year hosting writers’ retreats. Writers come from across Ontario and even the U.S. We provide space for them to write, and there’s often a workshop led by one of the authors. It’s really about giving them room to create.”
When it comes to local attractions, Jody is eager to share her favourites. Aside from the more common attractions like the Gananoque boat tours, helicopter rides, and kayaking, there are also some amazing walking trails around Gananoque, she says.
“There are also hidden gems like Beraka Farms and Bakery for farm tours and a wonderful local bookstore,” she adds.
That bookstore is Beggars Banquet Books at 126 King St. E.
Whether you’re in Gananoque for a weekend getaway or an extended stay, Pangea House offers the perfect combination of comfort, community, and adventure. Jody and her team are dedicated to making your experience unforgettable, and they can’t wait to welcome you to their beautiful home away from home.
