Are you looking for a stay that blends charm and comfort within walking distance of some of the most unique experiences that Kingston has to offer?
The Rosemount Inn in Kingston is just the place. Set in a beautifully restored Victorian mansion from 1850, this boutique inn transports you to another era without sacrificing modern must-haves. It’s the perfect blend of old-school elegance and contemporary flair, making it a standout choice for travellers seeking more than just a place to sleep.
"Rosemount House was built in 1850 by the renowned English architect William Coverdale and was the family home of a dry goods merchant, Edward Hardy," says owner Lucy Liu. "The main building, in the style of a Tuscan villa, showcases some of Coverdale’s signature arches, repeated throughout Kingston’s most iconic buildings, including the Sydenham Street United Church and the Kingston Penitentiary."
But Rosemount Inn isn’t just a historical gem—it’s a complete experience. From the moment you step inside, the vintage charm is everywhere, from original stately windows to elegant crown mouldings. Each of the 11 unique rooms features plush beds, modern bathrooms, and little luxuries like brass bathroom fixtures and fireplaces. It’s a space that invites relaxation and feels worlds away from the everyday hustle. Plus, each morning starts with a gourmet continental breakfast made from fresh, local ingredients, complete with an in-room espresso machine and premium tea selection.
“My husband and I are passionate about creating intimate, beautiful moments for our guests,” Lucy says. “When we saw Rosemount, we knew it had the potential to be a space where people could not only stay but also celebrate life’s special moments. We’ve worked hard to preserve the character and history of this Victorian home while adding our touches of modern comfort.”
Located in Kingston’s historic Old Stones District, the inn is perfectly positioned for exploring the city. A short walk takes you to downtown’s vibrant streets, filled with cafés, boutiques, and waterfront views. It’s the ideal base for soaking up Kingston’s rich history, lively culture, and waterfront charm.
At the Rosemount Inn, it’s not just about where you stay—it’s about how you feel. The staff make sure that every guest feels like a part of the inn’s story.
“Our parlour is my personal favourite,” Lucy reveals. “It’s perfect for intimate gatherings or quiet reflection. In the summer, floor-to-ceiling windows showcase our gardens; in winter, we gather by the roaring fireplace. It’s been the backdrop for everything from fashion shoots to family holidays, making it a true centrepiece of our inn.”
Travelling with a pet? No problem—Rosemount’s Coach House is pet-friendly, ensuring your furry companion can enjoy the adventure, too.
The inn caters to guests seeking a boutique experience with a youthful, serene vibe. Lucy and her team have deliberately created a distraction-free environment, opting for cozy spaces over TVs and a formal front desk.
As for recommendations, Lucy has a few: “Our favourite date nights are always at Tango Nuevo, a tapas restaurant that is a 10-minute walk away from the inn. The food is excellent, and the service is always warm and attentive. It also sets you right in front of Springer Market Square, which is filled with music and activity throughout the year.”
